During his time at Pitt, Colamarino spent three seasons with the Panthers before being selected by the Oakland Athletics in the seventh-round of the 2002 draft. Known for both his offensive and defensive ability, Colamarino spent time as the Panther's first baseman and designated hitter. He finished his sophomore season with a .337 batting average, 19 home runs and led the team in hits (57), doubles (18) and total bases (96).
Perhaps Colamarino's most memorable moment as a Panther came in his freshman season when the left-handed slugger hit two home runs in the ninth inning in a dramatic come from behind victory over Notre Dame. He drove in nine of Pitt's 22 runs in that game.
