FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.--Senior Diana Andreyko recorded her first double-double of the season, as Pitt's women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Arkansas this afternoon in its third and final game of the Arkansas Clarion Inn Invitational at Barnhill Arena. The Lady Backs won with scores of 30-24, 30-23 and 32-30.
Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs to lead Pitt (0-3). Meanwhile, junior Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio/Pacific) and sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) added 11 kills, a piece.
Despite being held to a .132 hitting percentage in game one, the Panthers battled back and posted a .378 clip in game two. During the second game, Pitt totaled 18 kills and was led by Andreyko with five.
In the third game of the match, Pitt held and early 2-0 lead after freshman Emily Burke (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) gave Pitt a point off an ace on her serve. However, Pitt slipped and trailed 17-11 at one point.
The Panthers then went back on top when Burke and junior Jessica Moses (North Olmstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) combined on a block to give Pitt a 23-22 lead in the contest. As the score went back and forth, Dooley tied the game for the last time at 30-30 with her 11th kill of the day. Arkansas (1-1) then recorded two kills to take the match.
Freshman Amy Town (Orillia, Ontario/Orillia) came off the bench and lifted the Panthers with a .600 hitting percentage and three assisted blocks. In game three, Town chipped in four kills.
Pitt travels to Oxford, Ohio to face Wake Forest at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, next. This will be the first match of the two-day Miami Tournament.
