Softball Blanked At Kent State

KENT, OH--Pitt's softball team dropped a 3-0 contest in game one of its doubleheader against Kent State, this afternoon at the Diamond at Dix. The Panthers fell to 22-32 on the year, while the Golden Flashes improved to 27-15.
The Panthers best opportunity to score was in the sixth as senior Sheena Hellon (Sacramento, Calif./Cordova) tallied her 11th double of the season and moved to third on a balk. However, she was left stranded.
Junior Jessica Dignon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) tallied the Panthers first hit of the game in the fourth with a single to center field.
The Golden Flashes earned its 3-0 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer. Earlier in the contest, Kent State tallied a run of three hits in the first inning.
Defensively, the Panthers recorded a double play in the bottom of the third, as Hellon caught a pop up just behind second and then picked off the runner backtracking to first.
Freshman Kayla Zinger (Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope) threw the first four innings, giving up seven hits and one walk in the loss. Zinger struck out two in the second inning, while her record slipped to 6-13 on the season.
Pitching three innings of relief, sophomore Kaitlyn Schuster (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) struck out two batters in the game.
