Card Blasts Sixth Homer Of The Season

MOON, PA--Sophomore Samantha Card hit her sixth home run of the season, as the Pitt softball team fell 10-1 in five innings in game one of its doubleheader against Robert Morris, this afternoon, at the North Athletic Complex. The Panthers dropped to 23-33 on the season, while the Colonials won its 15th game of the year.
Pitt's first hit of the game was a home run to center field from Card (Miami, Fla./Our Lady of Lourdes/Florida International) as the lead-off in the second inning. Card has a team-leading six bombs on the season.
However, the Panthers would be held to five hits in the game and that lone run. RMU tied the game with a run of its own off two hits and a Pitt error in the bottom half of the second inning. The Colonials then took a 6-1 lead in the third inning with a two-run bomb to left field, followed by a three-RBI homer in the same direction.
Later, Robert Morris tallied four more runs off three hits, including another home run, in the fourth inning.
Three different Panthers saw action on the mound as senior Laura Belardinelli (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) started the game and threw two innings, giving up two hits and the tying run. Sophomore Kaitlyn Schuster (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings and gave up six hits.
On the defensive end, Card recorded six putouts and one assist, while senior Sheena Hellon (Sacramento, Calif./Cordova) garnered two assists and two putouts.
