
PITT BASEBALL FALLS 7-1 AT LOUISVILLE

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Pitt baseball team (11-14, 5-4 Big East) dropped a 7-1 series opener at Louisville (21-8, 6-1 Big East) Thursday night at Patterson Stadium. The Panthers registered two hits in the loss with the lone run coming on a Gary Bucuren home run.
Bucuren (RS-FR/Ambridge, Pa./Kentucky) recorded one hit in four plate appearances while pitcher Rob Brant picked up the loss for the team. Brandt pitched the complete game, giving up seven earned runs on 12 hits.
Pitt got off to a quick start in the first inning with the Bucuren home run to left field for the Panthers to take the 1-0 lead. Louisville tied it up in the bottom of the inning and added two in the second, claiming the 3-1 lead. The Cardinals scored seven unanswered runs including one in each of the fourth, sixth seventh and eighth innings.
Louisville's leadoff hitter, centerfielder Boomer Whiting, was a perfect 5 of 5 on the night with two runs and two RBI. Starting pitcher Zack Pitts gave up just one run on one hit in eight innings of work.
Pitt returns to action Friday afternoon for game two of the three-game series at Louisville. Game time is set for 6 p.m. with the series wrapping up on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Patterson Field.
