ANDREA ARLOTTA REPRESENTS PITT AT THE 2007 NCAA GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

SALT LAKE CITY - Pitt senior Andrea Arlotta represented the Panthers competing as an all-arounder at the NCAA Championships. The competition opened up today with the team qualifying round in addition to the all-around. Arlotta competed in every event, scoring a 38.800 to tie for 16th.
Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) began on the uneven bars where she scored a 9.725. She was eighth in the standings after one rotation and finished the competition tied for 29th. Next up was the balance beam where she scored a 9.700, one of her top five scores on this event this season. She tied for 34th.
On the floor exercise, Arlotta scored a 9.625 for 38th. Entering the meet, Arlotta held a 9.715 average on this event. Finally, on the vault she scored a 9.750 for 35th. She has either matched this score or earned higher in three of her last four meets.
Arlotta has had a stellar career at Pitt, going down in history as the leading scorer with 1,609.18 career points. She's a 14-time All-EAGL selection and was named the 2007 Northeast Region Gymnast of the Year. This season, she was a three-time EAGL Gymnast of the Week and won the league title on the uneven bars. She also picked up six uneven bars, five floor exercise and two all-around titles in her senior year.
Today serves as a qualifying meet for the next two days of competition. The top three teams from each session will advance to Friday's "Super Six" competition where the team champion is decided. The top four individuals from each session on each event (including ties) move to Saturday's individual event finals. Only scores from Thursday are counted toward the event finals.
