
PANTHERS DROP TWO ON THE ROAD AT ST. JOHN'S

QUEENS, N.Y. - The Pitt baseball team (15-16, 8-6 Big East) dropped two games at St. John's (20-12, 8-4 Big East) to conclude the three-game series Saturday afternoon at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
The Panthers fell 8-1 in the first game and dropped game two 15-1 after capturing a Friday night matchup 10-9.
St. John's jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings with a four-run first inning and a three-run second inning. The Panthers allowed four runs off four hits in the first and allowed three runs off four hits in the second.
The Red Storm added to the lead and concluded their scoring with one run in the fourth to make the game 8-0. Pitt scored its only run of the game on a Jordan Herr (RS-FR/Lancaster, Pa./Delaware) single to left field. Herr scored Mike Lepor (JR/Rochester, Mich./Grand Rapids Community College), who reached base on a double to left field, bringing the game to 8-1 in favor of St. John's in game one.
Paul Nardozzi (SR/Victor, N.Y./Victor) suffered the loss in the game giving up eight runs on 11 hits while striking out two.
Game two of the double header started with the Panthers taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Sean Conley (JR/Chippewa, Pa./Blackhawk) doubled to the left field to start off the game. Gary Bucuren (RS-FR/Ambridge, Pa./Kentucky) scored the Panthers' lone run of the game on a ground out to the shortstop, scoring Conley from third base for the 1-0 lead.
St. John's scored one in the second to tie up the game with a Gil Zayas home run to left field. The Red Storm opened up the game with a nine-run fourth inning off eight hits, including a three-run homer by Zayas; his second of the game and his second hit in the inning.
After taking a 10-1 lead in the fourth, the Red Storm added to their lead with a two-run inning in the fifth, two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh for their 15-1 victory. The Panthers were out-hit 15 to 7 in the game with Conley and Bucuren tallying two hits each for Pitt to lead the team. Nate Reed (FR/Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) suffered the loss for Pitt giving up 10 runs on 10 hits in 4.0 innings.
The Panthers will return to action Wednesday at noon with a meeting against cross-town rival Duquesne at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Pitt will then host Cleveland State at 6 p.m. at Trees Field on the Pitt campus.
