PITT GYMNASTICS WINS QUAD MEET, EARNS ANOTHER CONFERENCE VICTORY

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Pitt gymnastics team traveled to Rutgers today for their first away meet of the season. The Panthers (6-2, 3-1 EAGL) earned their highest team score of the season with a 192.950 while defeating the Scarlet Knights (190.500), SUNY Brockport (183.425) and Yale (184.075). The Panthers won every event, and senior Andrea Arlotta captured the all-around title.
On the vault, Pitt scored a 48.325, keeping the Panthers over a 48.000 in every meet this season. Freshman Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) won the event with a career-high 9.875. Bryan has continued to raise her vault score in every meet this year. Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) took second with a 9.775, and freshman Kirsten Dahlberg (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) scored a career-high 9.650 for fourth.
Pitt continued to have success on the uneven bars, scoring a season-high 48.850. Pitt was led by Arlotta who finished first with a career-high 9.875. Kaitlin Harrison (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) tied her career-high 9.775 for a third-place tie with Rutgers' Lorena Johnson. Bryan and Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) tied for fifth with a 9.750. The score was a personal best for Bryan.
The Panthers also set a season-high 48.175 on the balance beam, capturing first through third place. The team was led by Anya Chayka (Germantown, Md./Richard Montgomery) who scored a career-high 9.775 for first. DeBone took second with a 9.750, and Arlotta came in third with a 9.700.
Finally, on the floor exercise, the Panthers finished with a 47.600 and three gymnasts in the top seven. Arlotta tied for the event title with Yale's Miki Seltzer, scoring a 9.775. Alix Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) came in fifth with a career-high 9.675, and freshman Shannon McConnell (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) took seventh with a 9.625.
Arlotta was the Panthers' only all-around competitor, scoring a 39.125, defeating the competition by two points. This was Arlotta's second appearance in the all-around lineup this season.
The Panthers will remain on the road next week as they face rival Penn State in the teams' annual meeting. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m.
