GYMNASTICS PICKS UP TWO WINS IN HOME TRI-MEET

PITTSBURGH - Pitt won every event this evening as they hosted a tri-meet with Air Force and EAGL opponent New Hampshire. The Panthers (3-2, 2-1 EAGL) went on to win the team competition with a score of 192.775. New Hampshire (4-3, 3-2 EAGL) took second at 190.225. In third was Air Force (0-3, 0-0 MPSF) with a 184.925.
Pitt started on the vault where they scored a 48.300 to take the lead after one event. Freshman Dani Bryan (Germantown, Md./Northwest) won the event with a personal-best 9.850. Senior Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) placed second with a 9.800. Sophomore Victoria McGuigan-Carl (Reading, Pa./Exeter) tied for fourth with a 9.700. In second after the first rotation was New Hampshire with a 48.675, and Air Force came in third at 46.200.
On the uneven bars, Pitt scored a 48.750 to remain in the lead. Every score Pitt counted toward the team total was a 9.750 or higher, and no score was below a 9.600. The Panthers controlled the event, taking first through fourth. Arlotta won the event with a 9.800. Kaitlin Harrison (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) and Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) tied with a 9.775 for second place. That score tied a personal-best for Harrison. Alix Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) scored a 9.700 to tie for fourth. Also setting personal-best scores were Jessica Byich (Nicktown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) with a 9.700 for fourth and Bryan in eighth with a 9.600. New Hampshire remained in second place in the team competition with a score of 95.625. Pitt was in first with nearly a point and a half lead at 97.050, and Air Force was in third at 95.625.
Next up was the balance beam where the Panthers scored a 47.750 and didn't count any falls. DeBone won the balance beam with a 9.800. Anya Chayka (Germantown, Md./Richard Montgomery) was next with a 9.700 for fourth place. Sophomore Andrea Konesky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bishop Canevin) placed eighth with a 9.550. After three events, Pitt continued to keep the lead with a 144.800. New Hampshire was in second at 143.500, and Air Force remained in third at 138.200.
Finally, on the floor exercise, Pitt scored a 47.975. The Panthers were led by Arlotta who placed first with a 9.825. Both Bryan and Shannon McConnell (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) scored a 9.650 for a fourth-place tie. Senior Jessica Garber (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) tied for eighth with a 9.550.
Next up for the Panthers is a quad meet at Rutgers. The team will face the Scarlet Knights, SUNY Brockport and Yale at 1 p.m., next Saturday.
