Two Garner All-Big East Honors

SOUTH BEND, Ind.--With the excitement of the Big East Softball Championships only a day away, junior Joey Scarf and sophomore Jessica Dignon were named All-Big East selections, this evening, as announced at the conference banquet.

Earning her first post-season accolade, Scarf (Humble, Texas/Humble) became the second-ever member of the Pitt softball team to be selected to the All-Conference first team, as teammate Francesca DiMaria (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) earned the first honor in 2003.

Scarf led the Panthers with a .403 batting average in Big East action and was a perfect 6-6 in stolen bases. During the year, Scarf held a .981 fielding percentage from left field and posted a team-leading 13 doubles, tying the school single-season record.

Dignon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) earned All-Conference third team honors on the eve of her 20^th birthday. Dignon, also earning her first Big East postseason accolade, became the 10th Panther to be recognized by the league.

Dignon recorded a .353 batting average and led the team with 65 assists, playing third base in all 22 conference games. On the season, Dignon broke several school records, including a team leading 61 hits.

The Panthers make their first-ever appearance in the Big East Championships against South Florida on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Belleville Softball Complex.
