PITTSBURGH -
Jessica Byich is now the second gymnast from Gym Dandy's to join the Pitt squad next season.
"Jessica Byich is an up and coming gymnast who, without the ankle injury at Regionals, would have been a very impressive competitor at this year's Junior Olympic Nationals," said Head Coach Debbie Yohman. "She's little, strong, excited, talented and has not yet reached her potential. With four good events and not a weak one, she should be a strong all-arounder for us. It's also nice that her and Shannon McConnell, both training at Gym Dandy's, will be able to push each other this summer until they get to Pittsburgh!"
Byich (Nicktown, Pa./Bishop Carroll) is a Level 10 state and regional qualifier. At this year's state competition, she finished third on the balance beam and fourth on the vault. She has a career-high 38.0 in the all-around. She additionally finished in the top 15 at Regionals, but an ankle injury prohibited her from competing at Nationals.
Byich joins Pitt recruits Shannon McConnell (Allison Park, Pa./North Allegheny) and Dani Bryan (Germantown, MD./Northwest).
