
Pitt Struggles in Final Away Meet of the Season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - In their final away meet of the season, Pitt traveled to West Virginia for a competition with the Mountaineers and UC Berkeley. After several falls on each event, Pitt finished with a 188.700 in third place. This moves the team to 11-9 overall and 3-6 in the EAGL conference.
West Virginia won the meet, scoring a 194.450 while the Golden Bears finished second with a 191.000.
Senior April Pearson (Jacksonville, Fla./Wolfson) brought home Pitt's only event title of the evening. She tied for first on the vault with a 9.750. Freshman Victoria McGuigan-Carl (Reading, Pa./Exeter) tied for ninth with a 9.575. Tying pearson for first were West Virginia's Janae Cox and Erica Watson. Pitt finished the event with a 47.575.
On the uneven bars, junior Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) placed second, tying her season-high score of 9.825. Freshman Alix Croop (Allentown, Pa./Bridgeway Academy) set a new career high on the event, scoring a 9.725 to tie for seventh place. West Virginia's Mehgan Morris won the event with a 9.850. Pitt scored a 47.850 for the event.
Falls plagued the Panthers on the balance beam, as they only scored a 45.800. Sophomore Cassie Minick (Potomac, Md./Richard Montgomery) tied four fourth on the event with a season-high 9.675. Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) finished 13th with a 9.125. West Virginia's Gretchen Richter captured the event title, scoring a 9.800.
Pitt juniors Jessica Garber (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster Country Day School) and Robyn Marszalek (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) led the team on the floor exercise, tying for sixth with a 9.700. Sophomore Nicole Drane (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) finished ninth with a 9.650. West Virginia's Cox won her second event of the evening, scoring a 9.875. Pitt ended the event with a 47.475.
Drane was the only Panther to compete in the all-around, scoring a 38.675 for third place. Cox won the all-around competition with a 39.050 while Berkeley's Brittani Pittullo finished second with a 38.425.
Pitt returns home for their final regular meet of the season. They'll take on Penn State on Saturday, March 18, at 7 p.m. It will be Senior Night for the Panthers as they recognize two of their gymnasts.
