PITTSBURGH - The Pitt gymnastics team was recognized this week when it received votes in the GymInfo Preseason Coaches Poll. The Panthers return three all-conference selections and has also brought in a talented freshman class ready to make an impact in 2007.
Pitt returns senior Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest), a 2006 All-EAGL selection on every event and unanimous vote in the all-around. Other returning All-EAGL honorees include sophomore Anya Chayka (Germantown, Md./Richard Montgomery) and junior Samantha DeBone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield).
In addition to upgrading their routines in the off-season, the Panthers have also taken on a tougher schedule this year. They'll compete against six top-25 teams in 2007, including No. 10 Oklahoma.
Pitt opens its 2007 season with a Blue and Gold Intersquad on Friday, Jan. 12. Panther fans are encouraged to come to the Fitzgerald Field House and get an early glimpse of the 2007 squad.
