Pitt Finishes Third at Home Volleyball Invitational

PITTSBURGH - In the final game of the Pitt Volleyball Invitational, the Miami RedHawks got 12 kills apiece from Carli Reihman and Jeanna Staun in a 3-0 victory over the host Panthers.
Pitt (6-4) finished 1-2 at the tournament for a third-place finish, dropping the three sets by scores of 30-17, 30-22 and 30-27. Senior Ashley White (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East/Indiana) led the way for Pitt with seven kills and added three digs. The Panthers hit just .050 as a team but freshman
Defensively, senior libero Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) had a match-high 18 digs, while junior setter Azadeh Boroumand (Red Deer, Alberta/Thurber) came off the bench to lead the Panthers with 23 assists.
Freshman middle hitter Allie Cherven (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) chipped in six kills and four blocks and was rewarded with a spot on the All-Tournament Team, along with Miami's Reihman and Kristen Walters, American's Cutrina Biddulph, and Maryland's Beth Gillming, Rachel Wagener and Stephanie Smith (tournament MVP).
The Panthers will play Marshall at home on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. before visiting Columbus, Ohio, for the Ohio State Buckeye Invitational next weekend.
