Andreyko Leads Pitt Volleyball Past Marshall, 3-0

PITTSBURGH - Led by sophomore Diana Andreyko, the Pitt volleyball team swept past visiting Marshall, 3-0, at the Fitzgerald Field House on Wednesday evening to improve to 7-4 for the season.
Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) had a match-high 18 kills to go along with nine digs and two blocks. She hit .341 for the match with just four errors in 41 swings and now leads the team this season with 182 kills and 25 service aces.
A back-and-forth first set went to the Panthers by a score of 30-27. Whenever the Thundering Herd (5-3) seemed to rally to tie the game or take a small lead, the Panthers would battle back with key putaways by Andreyko and senior Gini Ullery (Tracy, Calif./Tracy). Ullery finished the match with 10 kills, six digs and two blocks.
Pitt won the second and third sets by identical scores of 30-26 to move within one victory of 800 in school history. The Panthers' all-time record is 799-331-3, including 213-49 at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Marshall got 14 kills from Kelly-Anne Billingy and a match-high 40 assists to go along with 10 digs from setter Katie Stein. Senior Megan McGrane (Muncie, Ind./Delta) had two service aces and a match-high 17 digs to give her 1,980 for her career - 20 away from becoming the 12th NCAA Division I player to reach the 2,000-dig milestone.
The Panthers will travel to Columbus, Ohio, this coming weekend to compete in the Ohio State Buckeye Classic. The Panthers will meet nationally ranked Ohio State on Friday, Sept. 16 and either Duke or BYU on Saturday.
NOTES: Pitt outhit Marshall, .240 to .233, for the match...freshman setter Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) had 39 assists to go along with four digs and two blocks...middle hitters Ashley White (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East/Indiana) and Allie Cherven (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell Central) had six kills apiece.
