CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Pittsburgh Panthers took the second game of a doubleheader from Big East opponent
The Panthers got off to an early start, plating two runs in the top of the third inning. With two outs in the inning, Eagles? starting pitcher Nate Jeanes began to struggle. Ben Copeland was walked and advanced to second as Jimmy Mayer reached base on a hit-by-pitch. Jim Negrych then got to first on a fielding error by the second baseman and both Peter Parise and Edgard Sucre were walked with the bases loaded, leaving
The Panthers would break the game open in the top of the eighth as they scored four additional runs. Negrych led off with a single to center, advanced to second on a wild pitch and eventually reached third on a Parise sacrifice bunt. Negrych would score on a Jeff Stevens single to left. David Cline topped things off as he belted a three-run shot over the left field wall and Pittsburgh went on to win it 6-1.
Pitt?s starting hurler, Shaun Butler, held
Jeanes, despite his nine strikeouts, picked up the loss on the mound for the Eagles as he allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings pitched.
The Panthers? action continues as they host
NOTES: Pitt's Shaun Butler pitched a career-high nine innings and his first complete game with the Panthers...David Cline picked up 1st home run of the season giving Pittsburgh their second three-run homer in the series with Boston College...the Panthers' defense turned an impressive three double plays in the win.
