Gymnastics Wins First Meet of Season Over New Hampshire

PITTSBURGH-The Pittsburgh gymnastics team hosted its first ever ?Beauty and the Beast? competition, including the Panther gymnastics team and the Panther wrestling team competing at the same time. The Panthers won their first meet of the season on Saturday afternoon against the University of New Hampshire. New Hampshire scored 189.45 points, trailing behind the Panthers with 190.3 points.
Sophomore Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) took first place in the all-around competition with 38.7 points, her highest score of the season and her career. Also placing in the all-around was teammate Kaitlin Harrison (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial), who came in second with 38.275 points. Harrison also placed first on the balance beam with 9.725 points, her top score on this event for the season.
Arlotta came in first place on the uneven bars with 9.625 points. Placing in second on the bars, also from the University of Pittsburgh, was junior Lindsay Swan (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) with 9.6 points. Following close behind were teammates Brittany Baldwin (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Harrison, who tied for third with 9.575 points.
On the floor exercise, Arlotta came in first place with 9.775 points. Also placing on the floor was sophomore Jessica Garber (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster County Day School) with a 9.7, giving both gymnasts their season-best scores on the event.
The Pittsburgh Panthers will be on the road next week at Rutgers on Saturday, February 5 beginning at 1 p.m. They will compete in their first quad meet of the season again the home team, the Scarlet Knights, as well as SUNY Brockport and Brown.
