Gymnastics Drops Home Opener to West Virginia

PITTSBURGH-The Pittsburgh gymnastics team hosted its first meet on Saturday evening with a loss against West Virginia University. The Panthers scored 185.5 points, falling behind West Virginia with a team score of 192.925.
Freshman Kaitlin Harrison (Manchester, N.H./Manchester Memorial) took second place in the all-around competition, leading her team with a 37.925. Also participating in all events was sophomore Andrea Arlotta (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest), who took third place in the all-around.
Freshman Samantha Debone (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) took third place on the balance beam scoring a 9.65 in her first collegiate meet. Also finishing near the top in their respective events was sophomore Robyn Marszalek (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) scoring a 9.7 and finishing third on the floor exercise. Coming close behind in fourth place on the floor was Harrison with a 9.675. Sophomore Jessica Garber (Manheim, Pa./Lancaster County Day School) improved her floor exercise score greatly from last week?s meet, scoring 9.6 points.
The Pittsburgh Panthers will be competing at home again next week against New Hampshire as part of the ?Beauty and the Beast? competition. This event will feature the gymnastics meet and Panther wrestling match against Rider occurring at the same time. This event will be on Saturday, January 29, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.
