The 17-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs, was picked by staff members of Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Hiser is the lone Big East Conference player on the first team.
Hiser (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown), who was named the Big East Player of the Year last week and a first-team all-conference selection last week, broke the school record for home runs (21) and RBIs (67) in a single season as both marks ranked third and 15th nationally, respectively. He also was sixth in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.758) and finished among the single-season leaders in school history in runs scored (57) and hits (70).
On the mound, he finished with a 5-1 record and a 4.40 earned run average with one save. He tallied 49 strikeouts in 61.3 innings pitched on the year.
For the season, Hiser led the Panthers to the Big East Championships for the first time since 2000 and the most wins in a season (38) since 1995. Pittsburgh finished with a 38-18 record and tied for second in the conference with 17 league wins, which also was a school record.
