After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Pittsburgh came back to cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning as Mike Zambriczki hit a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Bryan Spamer to score.
However, Duquesne opened the game up in the fourth inning by scoring five times and taking a commanding 7-1 advantage. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Luke Taggart.
The Panthers trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the fifth inning as Spamer recorded a two-run single. Once again, though, the Dukes came back with two runs in the sixth inning, one thanks to a solo home run by Taggart, giving them a 9-3 lead.
Paul Nardozzi suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers, pitching four innings and giving up seven runs and seven hits.
