In the eighth frame, the Panthers tied the score at 11-11 as P.J. Hiser hammered his second home run of the game. Hiser also tallied a solo blast in the fifth inning.
After neither team scored in the 10th inning, Pittsburgh took control of the game in the 11th inning as it recorded four runs on just one hit, a two-run single by Mike Scanzano. The other two runs were off a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch that allowed Bryan Spamer to score from third.
Hiser finished the game 4-for-6 from the plate with five runs scored and two RBIs, including two solo home runs. Scanzano also added four hits in seven at-bats and added four RBIs, while Peter Parise collected three hits in five plate appearances. Ben Copeland led off the game with a single and extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Eli Friedman picked up the win in relief, pitching the final four innings. Friedman (1-0) allowed just one hit and struck out two Bobcats and walked two.
