PITTSBURGH, Pa. ? Cara Senger (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Oakland Catholic) scored her second goal of the season in as many games as the University of Pittsburgh defeated Duquesne University 3-0 Sunday at Arthur J. Rooney Athletic Field. Pittsburgh improves to 4-4-1, while Duquesne falls to 5-4-1.
The Panther offensive attack began when Erin Hills (Burke, Va. /James W. Robinson Secondary) booted a shot that was barely stopped by the Dukes goalkeeper Virginia Bond. Emily Tipton (Fort Collins, Colo. /Rocky Mountain) tapped the rebound in for the score at the 16:44 mark. Tipton and Hills both registered six shots for the day.
Hills took the ball down the left side of the field, passed the ball to Sara Gutting (Erie, Pa. /McDowell) and flicked the ball to Senger for the second Panther goal in the 60th minute of play. Hills secured the win for the Panthers on a direct kick that was the result of a yellow card on the Dukes goalkeeper Rachel Gecik.
The Pittsburgh defense limited Duquesne?s leading scorer, Lauren Bracco, to just one shot and the Panthers out shot the Dukes 22-9. Pittsburgh goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Hampton) registered seven saves and her third career shutout.
The Panthers begin a six game home stand Friday when they face Miami at Founders Field. Game time is
