Women's Soccer Registers 5-1 Victory Against Jacksonville
9/2/2003
ORLANDO, Fla. --Senior forward Emily Tipton scored a pair of goals and sophomore forward Sara Gutting added a goal and two assists to lead the Pittsburgh women?s soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Jacksonville on Monday. With the win, Pittsburgh improves to 1-1-0 overall while Jacksonville drops to 1-1-0.
The victory was first-year head coach Sue-Moy Chin?s first at Pittsburgh.
?I?m extremely pleased of how we responded after our loss on Saturday. We came out today with a great effort and capitalized on some early chances. I thought we played well and it?s good to see some of the things we?ve been working on in training transfer over to the games,? Chin said.
Pittsburgh went up 3-0 when Jennifer DeLaHoz carried the ball a long ways after receiving a pass from Erin Hills and found the back of the net.
Jacksonville got on the board when Ranveig Aas-Hanssen scored on an unassisted shot inside the box in the 41st minute.
The Panthers added a pair of goals late in the second half when Gutting received a pass from Kristina Francois and booted the ball past the goalkeeper from 40 yards away in the 85th minute. Three minutes later Carli Brill provided the final tally for Pittsburgh when she scored off a rebound.
Pittsburgh is back in action on Saturday when the Panthers host Maryland-Baltimore County at 1 p.m. at Founders Field.
