Pittsburgh Falls at Florida International, 10-2
3/7/2003
PITTSBURGH?Pittsburgh?s seven-game winning streak was snapped as it fell at Florida International, 10-2, on March 7. The Panthers dropped to 9-4 on the year while the Golden Panthers improved to 15-5. Pittsburgh opened up an early 2-0 lead in the third inning as Bryan Spamer hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Scott Folmar. Mike Scanzano would later single to right center and drive in Ben Copeland for the second run of the inning. However, Florida International went on to score 10 unanswered runs thanks to six Pittsburgh errors to capture the victory. The Golden Panthers put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth inning. Scanzano and Folmar led the Panthers with two hits apiece. Nick Evangelista (3-1) suffered the loss for Pittsburgh, working five innings and giving up five runs and nine hits. He struck out four and walked one. NOTES: Pittsburgh?s six errors were the most since it committed eight against New Orleans in a 10-0 shutout earlier this year...the Panthers left 11 men on base while FIU stranded seven...both teams turned one double play.
