Pittsburgh Lands Five All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League Honors
3/29/2003
DURHAM, N.H. ?
Junior Alyse Zeffiro (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) earned three of the five All-EAGL honors, including unanimous first-team honors on the balance beam, first-team honors on the floor exercise and a second-team accolade for the vault. The three honors give Zeffiro four for her career, including an All-EAGL second team on vault in 2002.
"Alyse has had an outstanding season for us on each of the three events she does," Head Coach Debbie Yohman said. "She deserves to be mentioned among the top gymnasts in our league."
Also earning All-EAGL honors on Friday evening were seniors Heather Launse (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco-Quest). Launse was named to the second team on the floor exercise, her first all-league honor.
"Heather has been competing on a high level for two straight years now and it?s nice to see her recognized for her accomplishments on the floor," Yohman said.
The final All-EAGL honor went to Sulpher, who was named to the second team on the uneven parallel bars. It was Sulpher?s third career league honor, after being named to the second team on vault in 2000 and 2002.
"Nathalie is a school record-holder on the vault and has competed as an all-arounder for the first time this season," Yohman said. "I can?t say enough about what she?s brought to this team both on a competitive and a personal level."
Pittsburgh will compete in the eighth EAGL Championships on Saturday evening at New Hampshire. The Panthers? top finish in the meet was at Fitzgerald Field House in 2000 when they took second place.
