Gymnastics Places Seventh at EAGL Championships

DURHAM, N.H. ? The Pittsburgh gymnastics team finished seventh out of eight teams at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championships at the University of New Hampshire on Saturday evening.
The host Wildcats won the competition with 196..75 points, their first league title in the eight-year history of the EAGL, followed by North Carolina State (196.675), defending champion North Carolina (196.025), Towson and Maryland (195.775), West Virginia (195.650), Pittsburgh (193.975), and Rutgers (193.025).
The top individual finish for the Panthers was on the floor exercise by freshman Roslyn Singleton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township). Her score of 9.85 placed her in a tie for seventh place in the event, won by Dinorh Boyd of WVU with a 9.95. Senior Heather Launse (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) tied for 12th on the floor with a 9.825.
The three co-champions on the balance beam were Maryland's Sarah Hoenig and Rachel Martinez, along with the Mountaineers' Boyd. The top Pittsburgh finishers were Launse, Lisa Yarosh (Seymour, Conn./Seymour) and Alyse Zeffiro (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem) with identical scores of 9.825 from the judges, tying them for 18th place.
Towson's Juliya Kovaliova won the individual uneven bars competition with a score of 9.925 and the top Panthers' bar routine came from senior Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco-Quest) with a 9.75 (tied-28th).
The only perfect 10 score of the meet was earned by New Hampshire's Tara Phillips on the vault. Launse again led the Panthers with a vaulting score of 9.8, while Sulpher added a 9.775. Sulpher was the only Panther gymnast to compete in every event and scored a career-high 39.025 points in the all-around to place ninth.
The Panthers await the announcement of the NCAA Regional qualifier, sitting in fourth place in the Northeast before Saturday's meet.
