Bethany Wagner Named Assistant Gymnastics Coach
8/28/2002
PITTSBURGH -- Gymnastics head coach Debbie Yohman has announced the hiring of Bethany Wagner as assistant coach for the upcoming 2003 season. Wagner comes to the Panthers from the University of New Hampshire where she competed as a gymnast for the past four seasons.
Wagner's coaching experience includes serving as the Girls' Team coach at the New Hampshire Academy and at the University of New Hampshire Gymnastics Camp for the past three years. She has also coached at the International Gymnastics Training Camp in Stroudsburg, Pa.
While competing at the University of New Hampshire, Wagner was named to the All-East Atlantic Gymnastics League Conference Second Team on the vault in 2000 and again in 2002 on vault and the floor exercise. Wagner received the Most Improved Gymnast Award at New Hampshire last season and was a finalist for the Jim Urquhart Student-Athlete Award.
Academically, Wagner was the recipient of the Dean's Scholarship Award. She earned her bachelor's degree in marine and freshwater biology in April.
"We are very pleased to have Bethany on board," Yohman said. "Her addition gives us a fully-staffed program with two assistants. She will give us another viewpoint and add valuable input.
"In addition to her knowledge of the sport, Bethany will bring a huge amount of enthusiasm and energy to our gym. Anyone who saw her as a competitor at UNH can attest to that."
