Ten Panther Gymansts Named to EAGL All-Academic Team

PITTSBURGH- A total of 76 scholar-athletes were named to the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) All-Academic Team, including 10 of the 16 members of the Pittsburgh gymnastics team. In order to be named to the team, the athletes must have a grade point average of 3.00 or higher in the previous two semesters.
Named to the EAGL All-Academic Team for the third time were senior Rebecca Singleton (Poland, Ohio/Boardman), and juniors Jennifer Easter (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Lisa Yarosh (Seymour, Conn./Seymour). Singleton and Easter, both exercise science major, had the team's two highest cumulative grade point averages over the last two semesters with Easter earning a 3.79 average and Singleton had a 3.75. Yarosh had a 3.61 GPA in business.
Three other Panthers earned the honor for the second time, including Marcy Blitz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Raya Mullin (Runnemede, N.J./Triton), and Diandra O'Connor (Owasso, Okla./Owasso). Blitz, a sophomore business major, had the team's third highest GPA, averaging 3.74 in her classes. Mullin, a senior psychology major, had a GPA of 3.30 and O'Connor, a sophomore neuroscience major, had a GPA of 3.72.
The four first-time EAGL All-Academic Team members are junior Jamie Briner (Downers Grove, Ill./Montini Catholic Lombard) with a 3.47 GPA in psychology, freshman Sarah Gibson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) with a 3.05 as an undecided major, freshman Ashley Petten (Galena, Ohio/Village Academy) with a 3.05 GPA in pre-medicine and junior Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco-Quest), who earned a 3.26 GPA in psychology.
The ten honorees tied the 1996 team for the most by a single Panther team. In the seven-year history of the awards, 30 Panthers have been named to the EAGL All-Academic Team a total of 62 times.
