Pittsburgh Gymnasts Finish Eighth At EAGL Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.-The Pittsburgh gymnastics team finished eighth in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League's (EAGL) Championship held this past weekend at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. West Virginia took top honors, scoring a 196.375, followed by Maryland in second with a 195.875. The Panthers earned a final score of 191.025.
Leading the way for Pittsburgh was junior Rebecca Singleton (Poland, Ohio/Boardman), who scored a 9.825 on balance beam and finished tied for sixth place in the event. Singleton was also the top Panther finisher on uneven bars, recording a season-best score of 9.850.
On vault, the Panthers were paced by senior Becky Doll (Elmhurst, Ill./York) and sophomore Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco-Quest), whom both tallied a score of 9.700. West Virginia's TeShawne Jackson earned a EAGL-record 10.000 to win the event.
Junior Raya Mullin (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) paced the Panthers on floor exercise, registering a 9.725. Maryland's Jill Fisher scored a perfect 10.000 to capture the championship on floor exercise.
Although the Panthers did not qualify for the Regional Championships as a team, four of the individuals on the squad may have qualified for regional competition. Head coach Debbie Yohman is expected to find out the selections on Monday.
