Women's Gymnastics Finishes Sixth at Northeast Regional Championships

PITTSBURGH - The host University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team captured a sixth-place finish in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, Saturday, April 4. The Panthers finished with a score of 189.075 in the event at Fitzgerald Field House.
Intrastate rival-Penn State finished first in the championships with a score of 194.60, and was followed by Ohio State (193.525), Kent (191.475), Massachusetts (189.65), New Hampshire (189.25) and Rutgers (185.55).
Sophomore Samantha Salyers (Glenn Ellynn, Ill./ Glenbard West) was Pittsburgh's highest finisher, tying for sixth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.750. Salyers tied with Penn State's Joanna Knox and Ohio State's Stephanie Light.
Also performing well for Pittsburgh was senior Calli Bodnar (Graytown, Ohio/Oak Harbor) who finished seventh on the vault with a score of 9.7.
In all-around competition, sophomore Danielle "Freddie" Alba (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Pennsylvania's Kathleen Gunn tied for a ninth-place finish, each registering a score of 37.775. Alba also finished 13th on the floor exercise with a 9.675.
