Pittsburgh loses to Kent State

KENT, Ohio- The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team lost a 192.675-190.050 road contest to Kent State University Friday, Feb. 20 and dropped its record to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL).
In the first event of the day, Pittsburgh registered a season-high score of 47.70 and finished second. Pittsburgh sophomore Lisa Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) registered a season-high 9.7 and tied with Kent's Sarah Wolford for first place in the vault. The Panthers' Calli Bodnar (Graytown, Ohio/Oak Harbor) finished fourth with a 9.6.
On the uneven bars, Panther sophomore Samantha Salyers (Glenn Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) finished second with a score of 9.8. Freshman Colleen Crisi (Woodhaven, Mich./Carlson) scored a 9.7 for fourth place, and senior Kristin Bond (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored a season-high 9.275.
Crisi also finished second on the balance beam with a season-high score of 9.825, just behind Kent's Dani Roman who was first with a 9.85. Also on beam, sophomore Vanessa Rutherford (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) recorded a season-high 9.2.
On the floor exercise, Kent's Dani Roman recorded a 9.85 for first place, and Pittsburgh's Bodnar and Kent's Kristy High and Sarah Wolford each scored a 9.725 to tie for second. Crisi finished third with a season-high 9.65 in the event.
Rutherford was the only Panther to compete in all-around competition, scoring a 36.80 and tying for third with Kent's Kelly Dezman.
The Panthers return to action Friday, Feb. 27 when they host Ohio State at 8 p.m. in Fitzgerald Field House.
