PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh Gymnastics team broke an uneven bar team record by scoring 49.250 as they placed first in tri-meet competion at Trees Hall on Feb. 18. With a team score of 193.475, the Panthers defeated EAGL opponent North Carolina State (191.975) and Ursinus College (174.600).
Leading Pittsburgh in the all-around were junior Danielle Alba (Philadelphia, Pa./ Bishop McDevitt) and senior co-captain Janet Highhill (Grand Haven, Mich./ Grand Haven) who placed first and second, respectively. Alba, the Panthers' all-around record holder, scored a 39.275. Her performance was highlighted by a first place finish on beam (9.850) and a second place finish on bars (tie 9.875) and floor (9.850).
Highhill's second place performance on bars (tie 9.875) and third place finish on beam (9.700) helped her secure runner-up in the all-around position with a season high score of 38.850.
Junior Lisa Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) contributed to the Panther victory with an outstanding performance and first place finish on floor with a score of 9.900 and a second place finish on vault (9.750).
Pittsburgh moves to 7-3 overall, 3-2 in EAGL competition. The Panthers return to action at home when they face James Madison on Sat., Feb. 27 in Trees Hall. Starting time for the Pittsburgh versus James Madison University meet has been changed to 8 p.m.
