
Gymnastics Defeats Kent

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh Gymnastics team defeated Kent tonight, 193.075-191.350, in the Panthers' last home meet of the season. As a team, Pittsburgh won three of four events, including vault (48.30), uneven bars (49.10) and the balance beam (48.05).
Pittsburgh was led by junior Lisa Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem), who claimed top honors in two events. She won first place on beam as she recorded a career-high score of 9.80. The school record-holder on floor, Fronhofer dominated that event with a 9.90. She also placed second on vault with a 9.70.
Senior Janet Highhill (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) led the Panthers in the all-around as she finished in third place with a 37.775. Her score consisted of a 9.60 on vault, 9.75 on bars, 9.625 on beam and 8.80 on floor.
Juniors Danielle "Freddie" Alba (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and Samantha Salyers (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) claimed first place on vault and bars with a 9.75 and 9.925, respectively. Salyers is currently ranked 10th (tied) in the country on bars.
In addition, two Panther gymnasts recorded career-high scores on the night. Senior Sara-Claire Campesino (Delta, Ohio/Swanson) received a 9.525 and freshman Raya Mullin (Runnemede, N.J./Triton) scored a 9.85, both on bars. In her last collegiate home meet, senior Erika Flamer (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) earned a mark of 9.50 on vault.
Pittsburgh concludes its regular season with a road trip to Ohio State on Sunday, March 21.
