PITTSBURGH – Nino Bonaccorsi was named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athlete of the Week following his impressive performance for the Pitt wrestling team against Lehigh Saturday evening.
Bonaccorsi earned his first ranked win of the season at 197 pounds, beating Lehigh’s Jake Jakobsen, ranked 15th by InterMat, in an impressive 7-2 decision. Ranked No. 5 at 197, Bonaccorsi controlled the match from start to finish and his victory mathematically sealed the dual win for the No. 13 Panthers against the No. 17 Mountain Hawks. In fact, Pitt’s 24-9 team win was its largest ever home win against Lehigh in the 65th all-time meeting between the in-state rivals. The junior captain is now 3-0 this season in his new weight class, displaying a high-tempo, attacking style despite moving up to a heavier classification.
