Jay Kuntz was named General Manager of the Pitt Men’s Basketball program in May of 2025. As the program’s first general manager, he assists head coach Jeff Capel in roster development, recruiting, and all aspects of the Name, Image, and Likeness process.
Kuntz is well-connected in the college basketball space with 15 years of experience at West Virginia working in various roles under Bob Huggins. He also spent the 2024-25 season working as a consultant and assisting in the roster development.
As the Director of Player Personnel/Recruiting for West Virginia Men's Basketball from 2022-24, Kuntz oversaw all aspects of the on and off campus recruiting process for prospective student-athletes and managed the NCAA Transfer Portal.
He also coordinated the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) activities, working closely with the staff to ensure compliance with NCAA and institutional policies, and served as the liaison between the men’s basketball program and the Country Roads Trust collective. Kuntz also served as liaison to the Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) and other external groups, while at the same time, coordinating staff and team appearances.
Kuntz served as Assistant to the Head Coach from 2017-22 and was also a coordinator of player development from 2015-17 for the Mountaineers.
He spent three years as a graduate assistant in men’s basketball and was a four-year student manager from 2008-12 at West Virginia. Kuntz also served as an assistant camp director for the Bob Huggins Basketball Camps and coordinated the men’s basketball manager staff.
A native of Wallingford, Connecticut, Kuntz graduated from West Virginia in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies and earned a master’s degree in athletic coaching education in 2014.
Kuntz has one son, Jaxton.
