- Email:
Dustin Gray serves as the Deputy Athletic Director for Administration, where he oversees the department’s revenue share program, capital planning, several administrative units, and serves as the sport administrator for the men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and lacrosse programs.
Since arriving to Pittsburgh in 2016, Gray has been asked to jumpstart several key initiatives to guide the department forward. In 2025, Gray was tabbed by Director of Athletics, Allen Greene, to oversee all aspects of Pitt’s revenue share program where he will lead sport programs and staff through one of the most historic evolutions in college athletics history.
Entering the revenue share era, Pitt will look to further build on one of its most successful comprehensive athletics stretches in school history. Pitt’s recent run of athletics success includes ACC championships in football, women’s volleyball and wrestling, as well as multiple final four appearances by volleyball and men’s soccer. Collectively, the department achieved its highest finish in the Learfield Directors’ Cup in 2022-23 and has earned four of its top five historical finishes during this stretch.
While at Pitt, Gray has been entrusted to start two programs from infancy, including, Pitt Sports Camps (2019) and the Women’s Lacrosse Program (2021). Today, Pitt Sports Camps brings over 6,000 youth campers to Pitt’s campus boasting almost 100 camps annually. Women’s Lacrosse continues playing in the best conference in the nation and has seen incremental growth since its inception.
Included in Gray’s oversight of Facilities, Operations, and Event Management is the Petersen Events Center (Pete), home of the Pitt Men’s and Women’s Basketball program. The overall fan experience has transformed at the Pete under Gray’s leadership with the addition of several premium and fan enhancement areas, including a remodel of the GBU Life Campus View Club, the Thomas E. Richards Family Lobby and the addition of the IC Light Baseline and Platinum Clubs.
Equally as transformative, Gray has had the opportunity to oversee many projects overhauling the student-athlete and staff experience as well. Included in this work was the third-floor addition of the Petersen Sports Complex, the remodel of the football hydrotherapy room and locker rooms at the Duratz Athletic Complex, and the design of the Arena and Sports Performance Center. Gray continues to oversee the construction of this Victory Heights project set to open in spring 2026.
Gray previously spent time overseeing several creative units within the departments External Affairs Team, including oversite of social media, broadcast and video, graphics, and marketing while also chairing the External Affairs Team as a whole. In this role, Gray oversaw the development and implementation of Roc’N on Rooney, Pitt’s pre-game football experience and has led numerous other brand and revenue-enhancing initiatives.
Gray also plays an integral role in Pitt Athletics strategic planning where he has lead strategy for revenue enhancement, improved athletics results, as well as other comprehensive department goals. Internally, Gray serves as a member of the Revenue and Executive Team committees. External to athletics, Gray also partners with campus serving on several campus committees and serves as the Athletics liaison to the Universities office of Planning, Design and Construction, Facilities Management, and Business Auxiliary Services units.
While at Pitt Gray has been honored by his peers in earning the “Gold Standard Leader of the Year” award (2019) and served as the President of the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) during the 2017-18 academic year. Gray was also selected to participate in the 2018 LEAD1 Institute, a professional development opportunity for athletics administrators aspiring to be athletics directors.
Prior to arriving at Pitt, Gray spent ten years in various roles within the Compliance Office at Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames, IA. While at ISU, Gray helped student-athletes and sport programs reach new heights. Team athletic accomplishments during his tenure included four Big 12 championships in women’s cross country, two Big 12 Men’s Basketball tournament championships, the best finishes for men’s and women’s golf in department history, a women’s volleyball elite eight, and, at the time, the highest Learfield Directors’ Cup finish in department history. Gray received the “Johnny of the Year” award in 2008, awarded annually to the athletics employee working behind the scenes that makes a significant and positive impact for the athletics department.
Prior to ISU, Gray worked at Jacksonville University (JU) where he was hired to work in compliance. During his tenure at JU, Gray also spent time as the Director of Operations where he oversaw event management and game-day operations. In 2005, Gray was awarded “Outstanding Advisor” a campus-wide award for the top student club advisor for his work advising the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Gray began his career in collegiate athletics at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) as a sports information intern where he was the primary contact for men’s and women’s tennis and track and field and assisted with men’s and women’s basketball and football.
Gray and his wife, Andrea, originally from Kansas City, Kan., live with their three children, son Maxwell and girl/boy twins Landrie and Emerson in Moon Township, Pa.
