Deirdre Chatlos returned to her alma mater and joined the Pitt athletic training staff as the Assistant Director for Sports Medicine in March 2023 and serves as the athletic trainer for the women’s volleyball team.
Prior to her arrival at Pitt, Chatlos spent 5 years at Princeton University as the athletic trainer for men’s and women’s volleyball and women’s open rowing. Chatlos was a part of several successful programs, including Ivy League championships in women’s volleyball and rowing in ’19 and ’22, as well as men’s volleyball’s EIVA conference championships in ‘19 and ‘21. Additionally, she served as the lead athletic trainer on the department’s concussion committee and a site preceptor for Seton Hall University.
Chatlos obtained her graduate degree in Kinesiology at San Jose State University in 2015 and was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Santa Clara University from 2013-2014, prior to being hired on full-time as the men’s soccer athletic trainer until 2018. In addition to her clinical duties, she assisted in the development of the department’s emergency action plan for mental health as well as the concussion policy and served as the department insurance coordinator and physical therapy coordinator.
A 2013 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, Chatlos was an athletic training student with men’s basketball, gymnastics, Carnegie Mellon soccer, and West Mifflin Area High School. As an undergraduate, she was awarded the Dr. Freddie Fu Athletic Training Scholarship, the Tim Kerin Memorial Scholarship, and won the NATA Foundation DeLoss Brubaker Student Writing Contest. Chatlos is a board-certified athletic trainer and licensed through the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. She has certifications in Vestibular Rehabilitation, Functional Range Conditioning, Blood Flow Restriction, Myofascial Decompression, and CPR/AED for Processional Rescuers.
