Sheana Vega is entering her third season as director of recruiting for the Pitt women’s basketball program in 2020-21.
Vega’s major job responsibilities include managing recruiting travel arrangements for all coaches, compiling prospects information for coaching staff, working with the creative team on all aspects of in home and on campus visits and coordinates team community service events.
Vega came to Pitt in 2018 after spending four years as a women’s basketball student-athlete at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., where she helped lead the Lady Flames to two Big South Tournament Championships (2015, 2018) and two NCAA Tournament appearances (2015, 2018). She was nominated for the NCAA and Big South Conference Woman of the Year awards in 2018.
In 2017, Vega and her teammate Molly Reagan traveled to Kenya as part of Athletes in Action, where they served families in poverty and coordinated basketball clinics for youth. The program was able to donate more than 200 items such as tablets, shoes, clothes, food and other necessities. Vega participated in other community service projects as a member of Liberty’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The group raised more than $7,000 for Lynchburg area public schools, 5,000 canned goods for underprivileged families and more than $3,000 for Hurricane Harvey victims.
Vega graduated from Liberty in three years with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice in May 2017 and graduated with her Masters of Business Administration from the university in August of 2018. She is a two-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll and earned the AD-Commitment to Excellence Award for achieving a 4.0 GPA in 2018.

Favorite place on the University of Pittsburgh Campus?
The Cathedral of Learning. It is absolutely beautiful.
Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
Our team beating Notre Dame at the buzzer this season in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
What is your favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
I love sight-seeing, going to all the sporting events the city has to offer and tasting all the diverse foods.
What do you love most about working in Athletics?
I love being able to build relationships with our players, our coaches, as well as, other coaches and staff members within the athletic department.

Hobbies outside of work?
I love photography and traveling, especially the opportunity to serve through mission trips.
