Bryce Cregan enters his fourth season as assistant coach and seventh overall at the University of Pittsburgh in 2025.
In 2024, Cregan helped lead Pitt to one of its best seasons to date – winning the ACC regular season championship for the first time in program history, while reaching the national quarterfinals for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
The Panthers earned the No. 2 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Pitt went undefeated against nationally-ranked opponents (5-0) in the regular season, while outscoring them by an 11-2 margin. The Panthers defeated 25 percent (four) of the top 16 national seeds, including the third and fourth seeds, respectively.
A total of eight Panthers garnered All-ACC accolades during the 2024 campaign, as Casper Svendby notably won ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, midfielder Michael Sullivan was taken with the 39th overall pick by Toronto FC in the 2025 MLS Superdraft.
During the 2023 campaign, Cregan helped the Panthers reach the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-consecutive season and the seventh time overall. The Panthers played the toughest slate nationally, entering the NCAA Tournament ranked No. 1 in strength of schedule.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Panthers saw three players earn a spot on an All-ACC team as voted by ACC coaches. Senior Filip Mirkovic earned First Team honors for the second straight season after notching a team-high nine assists. Sophomore defender Jackson Gilman was named to the Third Team for the first time in his career after posting a career year offensively with two goals, two assists and six points. Defensively he helped Pitt secure six clean sheets on the year. Albert Thorsen earned the All-Freshman Team nod after posting four goals, two assists and 10 points in 12 games.
Cregan helped lead the Panthers to their second College Cup appearance in the last three seasons in 2022 as they finished off the campaign with a 12-5-5 overall record and a 3-2-3 ACC mark. Following the historic run in the NCAA Tournament that saw Pitt down Cleveland State, #14 Akron, #1 Kentucky and Portland, a program record three Panthers were selected in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft (Bertin Jacquesson, Valentin Noel, Jackson Walti).
A former student-athlete for the Pitt men’s soccer team, Cregan served as a volunteer assistant coach from 2018 to 2020 on Jay Vidovich’s staff, helping the Panthers become one of the top teams in the country.
During his time as a volunteer assistant, Pitt earned its first berth to the NCAA Tournament since 1965 and won its NCAA Tournament game in the first round in 2019. The following season – one split between fall and spring due to COVID-19 – Pitt went 7-1 and booked a trip to the ACC Championship Final for the first time in program history. Cregan was a part of the staff that saw the Panthers earn their first No. 1 overall ranking on Oct. 20, 2020.
In the spring of 2021, Cregan was named assistant coach of the San Diego State men’s soccer team under head coach Ryan Hopkins. The Aztecs went 8-7-2 that season with a 7-3 home mark during the 2021 season.
As a player for the Panthers, the two-time letter winner appeared and started in all 32 games played and totaled eight shots, three shots on goal and 2,852 minutes. He played his first two collegiate seasons at Akron before transferring to Pitt prior to the 2016 season.
Cregan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Developmental Psych in 2017 and a Master of Education in Administrative and Policy Studies in 2020. Prior to Pitt, Cregan attended Dallastown Area High School in Dallastown, Pa., where he was a four-star recruit and the No. 2 rated prospect out of the state of Pennsylvania according to TopDrawerSoccer.com.
