PITTSBURGH- Lacrosse's Lainey McGonagle and track and field's Luke Simpson been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week following standout performances last week.
McGonagle assisted the Panthers to their third-straight win over the weekend, posting her fourth game with at least three ground balls and her fifth game with at least four caused turnovers. She is fourth in the ACC in caused turnovers per game and 17th nationally. She continues to increase the number for the Pitt single-season caused turnover record, as she now sits at 37.
Simpson continues to rewrite the Pitt Track and Field record books, capturing his second program record with a standout performance in the 1500 meters at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. Simpson crossed the finish line in 3:41.01 to overcome Sam Bair's previous record time of 3:42.36 set in 2007. Already the program record holder in the mile, the senior's latest achievement further cements his place among the program's all-time great middle-distance runners.
