Simpson Shatters 1500 Meters School Record at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Luke Simpson broke the 1500 meters school record, while the Panthers collected three event titles at the Bison Outdoor Classic this weekend.
Simpson, who owns the school record in the mile, claimed his second program record with a time of 3:41.01 in the 1500 meters race. The Mars, Pa. native bested Sam Bair's 2007 pace of 3:42.36.
SATURDAY RECAP
- The Panthers began the Bison Outdoor Classic with a men's and women's sweep of the unseeded 1500 meters title. Alex Fleck won the event for the women while Nick Steinfeldt was the fastest male. Fleck's pace of 4:38.31 was a personal best, as was Steinfeldt's time of 3:54.76.
- Sarah Hurst followed in third place in 4:39.55, also a personal best. Ava Lane stopped the clock in 4:41.59 for ninth place to put three Panthers in the top 10 in the 1500 meters event.
- Ava Pultorak and Elizabeth Hunkele each earned personal bests in the 800 meters. Pultorak stopped the clock in 2:15.45 and Hunkele was just behind in 2:15.51.
- Graham Heinrich made his debut in the 3000 meters steeplechase, taking the title with his time of 8:54.96. Heinrich clocked the sixth fastest program time in the event.
- Quintin Gatons also participated in his first career 3000 meters steeplechase, finishing 7th in 9:07.01. Ethan Feinstein followed in 9th place with his pace of 9:08.77.
- Elizabeth Szybalski ran a personal best in the women's 3000 meters steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 10:56.82 to crack the program's top 10 list in the 10 spot.
- Maddie Lewis earned silver in the women's long jump, leaping 5.79 meters, which ties her previous personal best.
- The 1500 meters invitational race featured personal bests from Camy Kiser and Sienna Miller. Kiser's time of 4:26.35 was 9th overall while Miller was 12th in 4:27.69. Both were top 10 program times as Kiser moved from 8th to 6th and Miller made the list in 9th.
- Ethan Fingerhut competed in the 5000 meters invitational, taking 9th place in 14:16.43, a new personal best.
- In the women's 10,000 meters invitational, Ellen Baker was rewarded with 2nd place for her time of 34:16.82. Baker, who was previously 5th in program history, moved into third with her new personal best pace.
- Damian Frausto concluded the first day of action with a 9th place finish in the men's 10,000 meters invitational. The senior's 29:52.54 personal best pace is now the 8th fastest time on record at Pitt.
SUNDAY RECAP
- Cole Strother started the second day of competition with a third-place finish in the men's 400 meters dash. Strother stopped the clock in 48.15.
- Endeyah Lane took third in the women's 100 meters dash with her time of 12.08. Gabrielle Layne had a personal best time of 12.18 to earn 7th.
- In the women's 200 meters, Endeyah Lane once again had a third-place performance. She ran a personal best 24.32. Gabrielley Layne clocked her second personal best of the afternoon, a 25.05 to take 17th.
- Che Nwabuko, Malachi Williams and Darren McQueen Jr. concluded the meet for the Panthers by taking 6th, 7th and 8th respectively in the 200 meters. Nwabuko (21.14) and Williams (21.16) ran personal bests with McQueen Jr. delivering a 21.32 speed.
