PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers (20-7, 5-4 ACC) scored the second-most runs in program history on Tuesday afternoon with their 27-run output against Mercyhurst (5-17, 5-7 NEC).
The Panthers' 27 runs today were their most in a game since 1953 when they scored 36 runs in a win over IUP. Their 24-run margin of victory in their 27-3 win is also the second-highest mark in program history.
The Panthers combined for 24 hits today, their most in a game since 2013.
Pitt set Charles L. Cost Field team records for total bases (54), runs scored (27), hits (24), margin of victory (24) and home runs (7) this afternoon.
Joey Baran had four hits, slugged two home runs and drove in a career-high seven runs on Tuesday. He's the second Panther this season to drive in seven or more runs in a game. Derrick Tarpley Jr. had the first multiple-home run game of his career, driving in five runs on his two-run and three-run shots. Trey Fenderson went 2-3 with three runs scored, two doubles and four RBI. Lorenzo Carrier slugged his team-leading 13th home run of the season on a 423-foot shot to center and finished the day 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Reigning ACC Co-Player of the Week, Caden Dulin, continued his hot streak going 3-4 with three runs scored, a double and stolen base. He's recorded multiple hits in each of Pitt's last five games. Mason Ligenza hit the second home run of his career in the bottom of the fifth inning on a three-run shot that traveled 465 feet. Zach Walsh replaced Tarpley in center and went 2-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and a double.
On the mound Antonio Doganiero gave Pitt another stellar start, striking out a career high seven batters over four scoreless innings. The left-hander allowed just one walk and one hit and earned his team-leading fourth win of the season. Doganiero has only allowed one run in his last two starts.
The Panthers pounced on the Lakers early with a four-run bottom of the first inning. Caden Dulin got the inning started with a double in the gap. Lorenzo Carrier was hit by a pitch and Kai Wagner singled to load the bases for Trey Fenderson who drove a three-run double into the left-center gap. Fenderson stole third in the ensuing at-bat and would be driven in by a Joey Baran RBI groundout.
Pitt added six more runs in the bottom of the second to jump out to a 10-0 lead. Derrick Tarpley Jr. and Joey Baran each blasted two-run home runs in the inning followed by a Trey Fenderson RBI double.
Lorenzo Carrier hit a two-run blast to center for his 13th home run of the season as he put the Panthers up 12-0 after three innings.
Antonio Doganiero finished his day with another scoreless frame in the top of the fourth inning. He allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out a career-high seven batters through his four innings.

Sebastian Pisacreta lined an RBI double off the left field wall before Derrick Tarpley Jr. hit an opposite field three-run home run for his second long ball of the day. Joey Baran capped off the inning in grand style with his second home run of the game on a grand slam to right center. Pitt led by twenty runs through the first four innings.
True freshman Mason Ligenza tacked on three more runs as he launched the second home run of his career 465 feet to right in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Pitt finished their day offensively with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gavin Miller led off the inning with a solo home run, the first of his Pitt career. Aidan McAskie and Zach Walsh each drove in runs on RBI doubles before Julian Irizarry drove in Pitt's 27th and final run of the day on an infield single.
