NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. – After leading the Panthers to the first top-15 win in program history last week, Kaitlyn Giandonato has been named the IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week.
The junior from Malvern, PA put together an all-around performance as Pitt led wire-to-wire in their defeat of then No. 14 Duke. She recorded four goals, two assists (six points total), three ground balls, four caused turnovers and one draw control. The four goals matched the number scored by Maureen McNierney to pace the Panther attack. Giandonato was critical in the transition game, as her caused turnovers on the ride created multiple scoring opportunities. The victory helped the Panthers achieve their first ranking in program history, entering in at No.25 as announced by the IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll Monday morning.
Giandonato ranks fifth in program history with 47 career goals and sixth with 62 points to her name in just over two years of action.
Pitt looks to continue their hot start Wednesday as they make the quick trip to State College to face No. 23 Penn State at 5 p.m.
