Panthers Complete Day 3 of ACCs, Match 20 Years of Relay A-Cuts in One Night

ATLANTA, Ga. - Pitt Swimming and Diving made history on Tuesday night at the 2026 ACC Championships, earning three NCAA Relay A -Cuts and breaking five school records in a single session — matching the total number of relay A cuts the program had achieved in the previous 20 years combined.
Historic Night on the Relays
Since 2006, Pitt had earned just three NCAA Relay A Cuts total — one men's cut (200 Medley Relay, 2021) and two women's cuts (200 Medley Relay at the 2024 Texas Invite, and 400 Free Relay at the 2025 Texas Invite). The Panthers matched that two-decade total in one night. Five school records fell across the relay events.
The women's 200 medley relay team of Claire Jansen, Angelina Messina, Sydney Gring, and Mary Clarke opened the relay session with a ninth-place finish in 1:36.80. Jansen's 50 back split of 23.6 was a school record; the first of five to fall on the night.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Mason Leach, Eli Hobson, Julian Koch, and Donat Fabian followed with a strong showing, finishing fourth overall in a time of 1:22.57, a school record and an NCAA A-Cut and also a time that would have placed 10th at last year's NCAA Championships.
The women's 800 free relay team of Avery Kudlac, Sydney Gring, Mary Clarke, and Claire Jansen kept the momentum going with an NCAA A-Cut of their own, finishing sixth in a program-record time of 7:00.42. The mark would have been good for 15th at last year's NCAA Championships.
The men's 800 free relay team of Julian Koch, James Allison, Patrizio Costanza, and Alan Vergine capped the historic session with a third NCAA A"-Cut, finishing ninth in 6:14.43 — smashing the previous team record by two seconds. Koch's individual 200 free split also set a school record.
Platform Diving
The Pitt divers ended their week with a strong showing on the platform. Jess Vega led the way with a seventh-place finish in the women's finals, while Mariana Osorio Mendoza placed ninth. Cassie Guerrera (16th), Rachel Dickerson (19th), and Jocelyn Brooks (23rd) also contributed points for the Panthers.
On the men's side, Noah Bernard earned a 14th-place finish, with Chase Marafioto adding a 21st-place effort.
Team Standings
Through 10 events, Pitt's women sit in second place overall with 227 points, trailing only Stanford (261).
