Pitt Swim and Dive Heads to West Virginia for Road Dual

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Swimming and Diving program will travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers on Saturday, Jan. 10 at noon at the Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

Series History
The Pitt men hold a 37-10 all-time advantage over West Virginia after earning a 227-70 victory last season at Trees Pool.
On the women's side, the Panthers own a 46-3 series lead and most recently defeated the Mountaineers 240-57 during the 2024-25 season.
Women Check in at No. 24
Off to a 6-1 start, the Pitt women's team is tied for 24th in the December edition of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Division I Poll. The ranking marks the first CSCAA national ranking in program history.
Last Time Out
Pitt closed out 2025 at the Texas Invitational, where the Panthers broke nine program records. The women recorded a school-record time of 3:12.88 in the 400 freestyle relay to earn an automatic qualification for the NCAA Championships. Avery Kudlac led off the relay with a program-record split of 48.28.
Internationally, Angelina Messina competed at the Southeast Asian Games in Bangkok as a member of the Laos National Team. She swam in four events and advanced to the A final in each. Six Pitt divers were also named U.S. Senior National Qualifiers, highlighted by Mariana Osorio Mendoza, who placed eighth nationally on the women's platform.
Scouting West Virginia
The Mountaineer women enter the meet with a 2-1 record after a 201-99 home victory over Loyola (Md.) in November. The men's team is 2-0 on the season with wins over Delaware and Loyola.
Panthers to Watch
Mariana Osorio Mendoza – Two-time NCAA qualifier and ACC Championships finalist entering her third year with the program. Finished eighth at US Diving Nationals in December and sixth on platform at the ACC Championships and won bronze on platform at the 2024 World Junior Championships. Represented Colombia at the World Championships this summer.
Julian Koch – ACC Championships qualifier who set multiple school records as a freshman. Finished 16th in the 100 freestyle at the ACC Championships and captured silver at the European U23 Championships. Currently ranks among fourth in the country in the 100 free with a time of 41.15.
Claire Jansen – Seven-time school record holder in the 50, 100, and 200 backstroke events. 2025 NCAA Honorable Mention All-American, helping the Pitt women achieve their highest NCAA team finish in 29 years. Currently ranks sixth in the country in the 200 back and 11th in the 100 back.
Sydney Gring – NCAA and ACC Championships qualifier and multiple school record holder currently in her third season. Helped set Pitt records in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays at the NCAA Championships. The Panthers' 800 free relay recorded the highest NCAA relay finish in program history.
