
Men's and Women's Cross Country Race to Third at the Spiked Shoe Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - In the second meet of the season, Pitt Cross Country made strong strides at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State at the Blue & White Courses, Friday morning.
The women's team took third place with a total of 108 points, edging out Maryland by one point. Freshman Maureen Cheruiyot led the way for the blue and gold, crossing the line in 21:22.0 for 14th place. Sophomore Ella Cook followed in 18th place with her personal best time of 21:26.1. Junior Camy Kiser earned 25th in 21:43.6. Freshmen Camryn McGeehan and Elena Barrall made their collegiate debuts, placing 29th and 31st respectively, stopping the clock in 21:51.9 and 21:55.4. Altogether, the Panthers had ten athletes finish in the top 50 overall.
The men's team also solidified third place, tallying 97 points. For the second straight meet, sophomore Thomas McMahon led the way for Pitt. McMahon recorded a 5.2-mile personal best time of 25.06.1 and secured seventh place. Senior Luke Simpson was the second Panther and 13th runner overall to finish with his pace of 25:26.2, . The sophomore group of Nolan McGinn, Nick Steinfeldt and Cole Casadei finished strong as they made up distance at the end to finish 34th, 36th and 42nd. McGinn bested his previous mark of 26:05.4 with a 25:55.8 time on Friday. It was the first 5.2-mile race for Steinfeldt and Casadei. Steinfeldt clocked in at 25:57.4 and Casadei notched a time of 26:08.6.
