BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Pitt softball team had its season come to a close after dropping to fifth-seeded Stanford, 9-2, in the opening round of the 2025 ACC Softball Championship at Harrington Athletics Village, Wednesday afternoon.

Pitt and No. 17 Stanford opened with a competitive first two innings, exchanging runs in the first and second innings before the Cardinal scored five runs in the bottom of the third to jump to a six-run lead.

The Panthers drew back-to-back walks after a quick two outs to start the game. Ana Hernandez hit a single to left field to drive in the first run of the game and take an early 1-0 lead. The Cardinal tied the game up at 1-1 with a single to center field in the bottom of the first.

KK Esparza hit a single and Ahmari Braden followed with a double to right center field to put the runners in scoring position. Kylie Griggs fouled out to the first baseman, but Esparza was able to score after the first baseman dropped the ball in foul territory.

The Cardinal took the lead in the bottom of the second with a two-run homer from Allie Clements to take a 3-2 advantage after two innings.

Pitt got runners on the corners in the third but didn't score for the first time of the game after the inning ended on a double play. The Panthers got runners in scoring position in the fourth and the fifth but weren't able to score a run.

Kendall Brown entered the circle in the bottom of the third with one out and produced a double play to the inning. Brown held the Cardinal to a scoreless frame with a strikeout and produced another double play to end the fourth inning.

Kyra Pittman pitched the final 2.0 innings of the game, allowing just one hit with one strikeout in seven batters faced.
