Panthers Drop Midweek Contest to No. 24 Ohio State

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt softball team dropped a midweek contest, 12-2, to No. 24 Ohio State at Vartabedian Field Wednesday evening. The Panthers were held to five hits as the Buckeyes exploded for 12 runs on eight hits and three home runs.

Kyra Pittman earned the start for the Panthers and battled the Buckeye batters in the first inning. Pittman retired Hadley Parisien on a flyout to right field after an eight-pitch at-bat but walked the next two batters. Ohio State took a 3-0 lead after Jasmyn Burns hit a three-run home run to left field.

Pitt struggled to stop the Ohio Stat bats, as the Buckeyes scored six more runs in the top of the second inning to take a 9-0 lead. The Buckeyes started the second inning with three consecutive hits to score two more runs and added another run off a sac fly to right field. Burns hit her second three-run homer of the evening to cap off the second inning.

Bekah Duck entered the circle with one out in the top of the second and retired the last two batters to end the inning. Duck allowed one earned run and one hit with four strikeouts and three walks, over 2.2 innings.

The Panthers got on the board in the fourth inning after Ana Hernandez hit a double to right center field to score Camryn Murphy. Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to score another run for the Panthers.
