Panthers’ Comeback Falls Short in Series Finale at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Despite plating four runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Pitt softball team fell to North Carolina, 8-4, Sunday afternoon at Anderson Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
After facing a six-run deficit through five complete innings, the Panthers (10-13, 0-3 ACC) got on the board with a bases-loaded sac fly by Kylie Griggs. Following consecutive walks, the Panthers secured another run – narrowing North Carolina's (21-4, 3-0 ACC) lead to four.
Shortly after, Desirae Martinez singled to left, scoring Kaitlyn Brannstrom and Ahmari Braden, pulling the Panthers within two. In the bottom half of the inning, North Carolina added two runs to take a four-run lead. Pitt continued to battle in the seventh but ultimately fell, 8-4.
On the mound, Kyra Pittman gave up six hits and struck out two through four innings of work. Kendall Brown came on in relief, facing 13 batters.
As a team, the Panthers logged nine hits, highlighted by Amanda Ramirez's 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Of note, Pitt's nine hits marked a series-high.
