PITTSBURGH – Gymnast Jah'Liyah Bedminster and baseball's Ethan Firoved have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week in recognition of their outstanding performances last week.
Bedminster led the Panthers to two wins at the Ohio State quad meet this past weekend. She played an integral role in Pitt's season-high 49.175 on vault, including a personal season best of 9.900. Bedminster also tied her season-high of 9.850 on bars.
In a heroic performance and the longest relief appearance of his career, Firoved pitched 5.1 innings out of the bullpen and earned the win in Sunday's comeback victory at Georgia Tech. He allowed just one earned run, four hits, and a walk while striking out a season-high nine batters. Firoved inherited a six-run deficit in the second inning and willed the Panthers to victory, dazzling for more than five innings throughout the middle frames. It was Pitt's fourth come-from-behind win this season when trailing in the sixth inning or later. Over seven appearances this year, Firoved has four saves, one win, and 31 strikeouts while maintaining a 1.19 ERA.
